There has been no better fusion between media and birth than being able to photograph pregnant bellies, births, and new babies. Documenting births is joyous work, and I feel privileged to have celebrated so many babies’ first moments through my lens.
Because I am a labor & delivery nurse at a busy hospital, my schedule does not always allow me to pick up and leave for a birth very easily. I have secured backup photographers who ensure that a skilled and creative photographer will attend your birth, even if I am unable to do so when your baby decides to arrive. My backup photographers are all skilled artists who are fellow members of the MN Birth Photographers collective, a non-profit organization of which I am also a proud member.
While I no longer attend births as a private doula, I am happy to provide you with birth planning consultation. During our two-hour prenatal visit, we will write a birth plan together, discuss any fears or wishes you have for your birth, and practice some comfort measures. I provide my clients with a “birth plan” template, a recommended reading list, and tips for multiple comfort measure supplies. Throughout our working relationship, I am available by phone and email for any concerns you may have.
If you hire a private doula, she will most likely want to help generate your birth plan. My birth planning consultation is for clients who are still unsure about hiring a doula, or have decided to not have additional labor support, but would like guidance in the birth plan writing process.
My recommendation, of course, would be that you do find a doula to attend your birth with you! But offering birth plan writing services is a way that I can still participate in prenatal education and care of the childbearing woman.
